Korea: Feast at Noryangjin fall 2016

If you're in Noryangjin market to pick up some seafood but find that you aren't sure exactly how to prepare it, or you aren't in a position where you can readily cook for yourself, have no fear! There are many restaurants located just outside the doors of the old market or inside the new where you can have your freshly picked seafood prepared for you at a reasonable cost. You have ample options, from sannakji:

Have you ever tried Sannakji?
It's octopus served so fresh that it's tentacles are still twitching and can grab your lip or tongue...or throat. They're served with sesame oil to help lubricate their journey towards your gullet and minimise the risk of choking...

Then there's the raw, still twitching shrimp. If your seafood is still twitching when it hits your plate you can rest assured it's the freshest of the fresh. I have to admit that eating the still live shrimp here at Noryangjin market spoiled me on the tasty little sea bugs. I have long been a fan of sweet shrimp when available at sushi restaurants, especially when they serve the fried heads alongside the sweet and succulent tails raw, but having them here and still alive was the absolute pinnacle of freshness. There was some feelings involved, and I tried to ensure I took their heads off as cleanly as I could to reduce the amount of time they spent contemplating their fate. The shrimp were SO fresh, in fact, that I had to chase some of them down the aisle in the restaurant to ensure they met their pre-ordained fate. In my mouth. It isn't pretty, but it sure was delicious.

SO very tasty, though! So good, in fact, that I later went back to get some more. Sure, their little head spikes were stabby and their dying thrashes were pitiable, though sometimes animated enough to send them on an attempted dash at freedom, but the end result was undeniably delicious.
And savage.
But that's okay. I like being a savage sometimes.

Vegas: We are the Music Makers Open Mic Night

Every Monday night We are the Music Makers open mic night that takes over The Beat coffeeshop in Downtown Las Vegas.  Hosted by our good friend Diego, you're guaranteed a wide cross section of the many music talents inhabiting our city. From tie-dye clad Hamlet rapping newbies to seasoned pros belting out covers of classic bluesy tunes there's something for everyone, and all are welcome.

It's pretty groovy. The coffee and grub aren't half bad, either. If you're of a particularly stoney mindset, give the Slap & Tickle sandwich a try; peanut butter & homemade jam with smoked bacon and pickled jalapeños on simple white bread. It's an unholy medley of sweet, smokey, savoury and your forever tainted childhood.

Antho and I rolled out with our light show, 710 Visuals, illuminating the event's proceedings. We had a lot of fun and the music was ever-so-delightfully coffee house chic, which means I felt like whipping out a sketchbook and doodling most of the evening. Next time, sketchy, next time.

We're definitely going to be doing more of these in coming weeks!
I'm looking forward to it. ^_^

Have you ever been to an Open mic night?
Did you perform?
I don't think I'd ever be brave enough ^^;;
Drawing is kind of a quiet, solitary thing, compared to music, isn't it?
But then again, Bob Ross made a career on his happy little trees, so there is potential there.
Anyway...if you're local, you should certainly give it a shot!
Everyone's very friendly and accepting, so don't be shy.

Hope you have a happy little day!
Thanks for stopping by!

XOXO Nau

The Watching Dead Mid-Season Finale Party @ Shakespeare's 2015-11-29

It was time for the mid-season finale of The Watching Dead, so I packed up my drawing supplies and made my way over to Shakespeare's Bar & Grill. Antho came dressed as Carl and my good friend Kaity joined us at my table for the event. As always,  we had a blast! We're grateful to Shakespeare's for hosting us, the cast of Evil Dead the Musical for doing trivia and giveaways, and FatBeard for organising and promoting the event and inviting us to attend. As I was so busy drawing I didn't really get to take any photos, all credit goes to team FatBeard!

Candy Warpop & 710 Visuals performance 11/2015

Candy Warpop recently put on a righteous show at 11th Street Records in Downtown Vegas and invited us to throw light at them. We happily obliged, and here's some of the results!
Josh, their guitarist, was a bit under the weather but still managed to do an excellent job of it. He even threw in a pretty rad solo later on!

Vegas: 710 Visuals @ Halloween House Party

This year we were asked to provide visuals for a private Halloween house party orchestrated by Germ of Ossum Possum, and we obliged. Live music, free beer, festive costumes and scary movies are generally a winning combination.
Naturally, Ossum Possum performed, as did Sojourner, and I've got plenty of videos after the cut for you!

Japan: Inokashira park with Yuka-chan 2012-11-15

Inokashira park is a beautiful open park in Tokyo. It was a bit of a commute from my side of town, but well worth the trip! On this particular day, Yuka-chan and I met up at a mid-way point then carried on for a day of adventure!

Las Vegas: Candy Warpop & 710 Visual at the Triple B 2015-10-09

Candy Warpop, if you guys didn't know, are a gang of badasses who rock the stage and sometimes give us the privilege of blinding them with pretty lights.
On October 9th they performed a fantastic set at the Backstage Bar & Billiards in Downtown Las Vegas and asked us to light them, so we did!
Jonas was unable to perform for the evening due to another event with some Cirque du Soleil related business, so the very talented Angelica Santis stepped in on bass!

Unfortunately for us, their giant neon sign kind of drowned out our visuals, but the effect is still pretty neat. More photos and video after the cut!

Las Vegas: Candy Warpop Show at the Double Down Saloon 2015-09-11

Candy Warpop, in case you've been orbiting Pluto and haven't heard of them, are a badass group of musicians who craft some glorious angst anthems. With Anisa on drums, Josh on guitar, Jonas on bass and Amy on vocals, they combine their individual talents into a passionate performance every time they do a show. We've actually done a show with them before, back in the early days of 710 Visuals!

Trust no one who dislikes the song White Rabbit.

It's fun seeing these old videos as it really demonstrates how far we've come since then!
This show was at the Double Down Saloon, which is renowned throughout Vegas for their ass-juice and punk-rock aesthetic. The show went really well and we had a great time!

Las Vegas: Fear the Watching Dear premier party 2015-08-23

Antho and I were recently invited to participate in the Fear the Watching Dead season premiere party hosted by Fatbeard and the cast of Evil Dead the Musical at Shakespeare's Grille & Pub. It was a freaking blast!!!

If you didn't know already, I'm a huge fan of all things horror!
Ever since I was a little kid horror movies have been a favorite of mine, with The Thingthe Fly, Alien & Aliens, American Werewolf in London, the Evil Dead series, and the Nightmare on Elm Street series among my favorites, but I've also got a big sweet spot for zombie flicks. Shaun of the Dead, Dead Alive, Night of the Living Dead, ZombielandWarm Bodies and more all hold very near and dear places in my heart. One of the biggest draws to the creepier side of the cinematic world for me is the practical effects utilized in a lot of the older movies. I was raised on a heavy diet of Jim Henson's astounding creations and was absolutely fascinated by the process I caught glimpses of in behind the scenes clips. Working in the world of creature effects and practical monster makeup has always been something of a dream job for me, and I geek out hard on videos showing how a talented team of professionals can turn a pretty little model into a crawling corpse. However, I'm currently much better at drawing, so I do! Being invited to events like this is always a great privilege and honor, and I'm happy to announce that we were invited back for the season finale! Yay!

Check out my art blog, Deviantart,  if you're curious to get a glimpse of some of the creepy stuff I love drawing, haha. Might not be suitable for the easily spooked. ;)

Vegas: 710 Visuals performance at the Womb Room

One of the most gratifying aspects of life is when things come full circle. Good writers often include examples of this karmic turn around in their media be it through visual gags, narrative, or character development.

It was with special pleasure, then, that 710 Visuals accepted an offer to perform at the Womb Room, the same venue where we'd originally witnessed liquid light art in action and been inspired to invest our time and energy into the medium ourselves.
