While the city of Las Vegas is itself situated more or less square in the middle of nearly nowhere, Mojave Desert, USA, this doesn't prevent a tide of visitors from sweeping through the city on a regular basis, human and otherwise. While you can readily pop on over to the Springs Preserve to learn more about our native wildlife, there's also a lot of migrating birds that stop through our fair little city on their annual trek across the continents in search of better weather. Personally, I think it's fascinating to see how these wild animals have adapted to humanity's ever-spreading encroachment upon natural lands. They're pretty clever, these winged little beings, and have managed to acclimate to our presence across most of the globe. Here in the city, you'll see lots of sparrows and pigeons, but there are also a few unexpected varieties popping up from time to time. I must admit my lack of educational awareness when it comes to identifying bird species... That's more of Antho's forte, as an eagle scout he's gotten merit badges in a plethora of things, including his "bird study" badge, which helps identify the differences in species and understanding birds and how they are useful indicators of the quality of their environment.
Let's also not forget that these creatures are the descendants of dinosaurs! We love watching their movements and trying to identify the predatory beasts of yonder-year in their newer, feathery forms. While personally, I've never earned a merit badge in bird studies (I was a resolute drop-out of the brownies) I've always enjoyed watching their antics. Sparrows have always been a particular favorite of mine, with their cute little bodies housing an inordinate amount of sass, they're a lot of fun to watch interact with one another. Hummingbirds, too, are one of my all-time favorite species of bird, though they don't like to make their tiny little presence known on the Strip so they won't be popping in on this post, unfortunately. All the birds photographed here were found right on the Las Vegas strip, among the humans. All photos here were taken by Antho, so enjoy!
Thanks for visiting!
Catch you tomorrow~

NAU
