Japan: Kaihin-Makuhari & Ishizawa home visit 2012-10-17 「

One drizzling day I met with my friend Yuka at Kaihin-Makuhari messe for a girl's day out.
Kaihin-Makuhari is easily accessible by the Keiyo line and provided a good meeting point for Yuka and I after I completed my weekly acupuncture treatment.

Once there, we went to a restaurant that specializes in Gyu-tan for lunch!
Do you know what Gyu-tan is?
It's beef tongue! ^_^
Surprised?
It's actually very tasty, despite any fears you may have.
The meat is tender and lean, delicious with a bit of smoke from the charcoal grill!
The soup on the bottom right corner is a clean & light beef broth.
In the top left corner was a sesame だれ, or dressing.

After shopping and having some afternoon coffee, we returned to the station to head out for the Ishizawa household for dinner with Yuka and her parents.

Yuka's mom prepared a beautiful feast for us!

Isn't Yuka's mama cute? ^_^
Let's eat!

Tonjiru, or a savory pork miso soup full of simmered vegetables like daikon radish, carrot, potato, etc. Very very yummy and a true homestyle dish!

After dinner we played iroha-garuta, a Japanese card game that utilizes hiragana and short proverbs. One player will read the proverb aloud and the first player to find the corresponding cards keeps it. Whoever finds the most corresponding cards throughout wins the game. Some of the images on the cards are pretty silly!

For dessert, roll cake!

During dessert we watched variety shows :)

All in all it was a lot of fun! Wonderful day out with my dear friend Yuka and her parents.
